Quinn laments tough market
02 Jul 2007 - 10:56:48
Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has admitted it is becoming increasingly difficult to finalise transfers due to the amount of money currently saturating the Premier League.
Black Cats boss Roy Keane has added just two players to his ranks since their promotion to the top-flight was confirmed in May - Greg Halford from Reading and Aberdeen's Russell Anderson.
Meanwhile, a host of other transfers have either failed to materialise or are yet to be completed.
Keane met with £7million target David Nugent two weeks ago but the England striker still remains at Preston North End.
West Bromwich Albion pair Paul McShane and Paul Robinson have also travelled to the Stadium of Light to discuss terms on a double move.
Elsewhere, former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan reportedly turned down Sunderland's advances before signing for Atletico Madrid.
"The market is very, very hot," Quinn told the Northern Echo.
"The new money in there has certainly made the Premiership a tough place to do business, but that's what we're here for and we'll give it our best shot.
"We'd like to think we have a lot to offer a would-be signing to this club. Sure, we have to prove ourselves, but the infrastructure is here for us.
"On the playing side, you also look at a manager like Roy Keane. I know that if I was a player with ability and wanted to show the world what I could do, I'd learn from Roy Keane."
