iall Quinn remains confident England can win the race to stage the 2018 World Cup, despite the controversy surrounding Lord Triesman.[LNB] Triesman resigned from his positions as chairman of the Football Association and the bid team following newspaper reports of claims made in a taped conversation which have prompted an investigation by FIFA's ethics committee.[LNB]The allegations are potentially hugely damaging to England's cause, but Sunderland chairman Quinn is confident that the hard work already done by the campaign team and the prospective host cities, of which Sunderland and neighbours Newcastle are two, will not go to waste.[LNB]He told his club's official website: "Further to the developments over the weekend, the Sunderland bid team remains very positive about England's 2018 World Cup hopes.[LNB]"A huge amount of work has gone into the bid so far, both centrally from the 2018 team and also across the 12 candidate host cities, and we are confident that collectively we can build on the fantastic work that has already taken place.[LNB]"Our region continues to promote a positive message about how staging this tournament would be a huge boost to the north-east and the country as a whole.[LNB]"All of our efforts must now continue to focus on doing everything possible to ensure that FIFA award England the honour of hosting the 2018 World Cup."
