Phillips: I will never celebrate a goal against my former side Sunderland

Former Sunderland favourite Kevin Phillips will not celebrate if he scores against his former club as he prepares to meet his old employers in the Carling Cup The Birmingham City striker, who broke numerous goalscoring records on Wearside, is certain to make his first start of the season for Alex McLeish's injury-ravaged side in the third round tie. Phillips admits it promises to be an emotional night and could well be his final appearance at the Stadium of Light where he made such an enormous impression under former boss Peter Reid. Those were the days: Kevin Phillips became a Sunderland hero after scoring many goals during his time at the Stadium of Light Phillips, who finished his time as the club's leading goalscorer after breaking Brian Clough's record, said: `I'm excited about the game because it's not often these days I start matches and because, of course, the game's in Sunderland. 'I'm really looking forward to coming back up to the North East and it has dawned on me that this could be the last time I play at the Stadium of Light.  NORTHERN EXPOSURE: Only winning the Carling Cup will convince the masses that Bruce is to be taken seriously as manager of SunderlandInjury-hit Spurs eye £8m Sunderland's Anton Ferdinand to patch up defenceSteve Bruce to give Sunderland new boys Mensah and Da Silva Cup startsSUNDERLAND FC
