Pallister tips Bruce to follow Capello at England

STEVE BRUCE has been backed by a former England international and Manchester United team-mate to be named as Fabio Capellos successor.[LNB] The Italian has drawn universal praise for securing Englands place in South Africa next summer following last months 5-1 win at home to Croatia.[LNB] But ex-England and Manchester United centre-half Gary Pallister has been hugely impressed by Bruce since he took charge at the Stadium of Light and believes the Black Cats boss has emerged as the leading candidate to take charge of the national side when Capello steps down.[LNB] Steve is doing a tremendous job at the moment and he has a wealth of experience behind him already. In my opinion he is the right man at the right club but I would like to see him being given a chance to manage at international level for England in the not too distant future, said Pallister, who earned 22 international caps.[LNB] Bruces side were 90 seconds away from securing a place in the top six before Man Uniteds last gasp equaliser last Saturday. Despite the teams late defensive lapse, Michael Turner hailed the protection that Lorik Cana and Lee Cattermole offer the back four.[LNB] We defended very well on Saturday, but thats not all down to the back four, said Turner.[LNB] I think the whole team defended well, but the two central midfielders did a brilliant job shielding there in front of us. They cover a hell of a lot of ground for the side and both of them have been brilliant since I came to the club.[LNB] Its a great comfort as a defender to have two players like that in front of you because you know that no-one is going to get through cheaply.[LNB] Cattermole is battling to be fit for the visit of Liverpool in eight days after he returned prematurely from international duty. The Sunderland medical team have started a course of treatment on his nagging heel injury.[LNB] Tickets are on sale for the Black Cats Carling Cup fourth round tie at home to Aston Villa, on Tuesday 27th October, kick off 7.45pm.[LNB] The club are operating their discounted pricing scheme, allowing supporters who book tickets before matchday to pay £15 adults, £5 concessions and £25 Black Cats Bar entry.[LNB] Prices on the day will revert to £20 adults, £10 concessions and £30 Black Cats Bar Tickets for all areas of the stadium are on general sale and season card holders and Black Cats members have until 5pm on October 14 to reserve their current match seat for the game.[LNB]
