Darren Bent has been ruled out of England's crucial Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro.

The Sunderland striker was tipped to play a part for Fabio Capello's men at Wembley tomorrow night after breaking his international duck in the win over Switzerland.

But the striker will miss Tuesday's clash with a groin injury.

Bad news: England manager Fabio Capello has revealed Darren Bent is out of the clash against Montenegro

Peter Crouch is now likely to partner Wayne Rooney up front, with Kevin Davies poised to make his England debut from the bench.

Capello told a press conference televised by Sky Sports News: 'Darren Bent is out - I think we will play Peter Crouch.'

Thenews will come as a huge blow to Bent who is desperate to breathe newlife into his England career after his goal against the Swiss lastmonth.

The signs looked good for the the former Tottenham strikerafter Capello admitted last week that the forward would play a majorrole for England in the future.

And Bent said last week: 'I heard the manager said that, and that has to be good. It's great. Hopefully, it means I'll get a good crack at it with England now.

'Naturally I'd love to start, but it's not for me to guess what Mr Capello is going to do. He has his own ideas, so who knows? He can surprise people.

'Knowing what I know already about the way the England manager works, my immediate goal is not starting the game but showing up well in training, because that is what he looks for.'

Central defenders John Terry and Phil Jagielka have already withdrawn from the squad because of injury, although Rio Ferdinand is back in the side - and will regain the captain's armband from Steven Gerrard.
