O'Shea urges Cats response
Sunderland defender John O'Shea has urged the players to bounce back after their disappointing defeat to Norwich on Monday night.[LNB] The Black Cats failed to build on their first win of the season against Stoke the previous week thanks to a 2-1 defeat at Carrow Road.[LNB]The Wearsiders have now won just four of their last 24 games in all competitions, raising the pressure on boss Steve Bruce and his squad.[LNB]And O'Shea acknowledges the players weren't good enough on Monday night, especially in the final third of the field. [LNB]"I wouldn't say it is back to square one after losing, but it is disappointing and we are not trying to hide the fact," O'Shea told the Northern Echo.[LNB]"We came to Norwich very confident of getting the three points but we didn't perform well enough to get those. [LNB]"We are not creating too many clear cut chances, we are not testing out back fours either, we know we need to improve on it but the players and everyone behind the scenes are working hard to make it happen. [LNB]"There are lots of players to fit into the system for that to happen. Things can only get better and better. [LNB]"We needed better quality ball in to the strikers at Norwich and that is where we let ourselves down. We did it against Stoke, the quality was excellent but against Norwich it wasn't there."[LNB]West Brom are the visitors to Wearside on Saturday and O'Shea, who signed from Manchester United for £5million over the summer, has urged his team-mates to make the most of the quick opportunity to put the Norwich defeat behind them.[LNB]"There is no extra pressure on Saturday because every game in the Premier League is a tough game. At home you are the favourites, but we have to perform under that pressure," added the 30-year-old. [LNB]"That is what we will be looking to do again. It is how you bounce back from difficult nights like at Norwich and show what players you are to cope with that pressure.[LNB]"The consistency is what we need to find. Some of the performances have been good and others have been so bad. [LNB]"We have to find that level that we know the players are capable of. [LNB]"There is no better opportunity than at home to West Brom. It is an opportunity to bounce back from the poor performance and we will be looking to do that."
