O'Neill After 35-Year Old Ex-Mag?

According to reports today, Martin O'Neill has offered Sylvain Distin the chance of a return to the North-East.

However, it is thought he is unlikely to leave Goodison Park to join either Sunderland or Harry Redknapp's Queens Park Rangers.

The 35-year-old Everton defender has been outstanding this season but is out of contract in the summer, and could command a decent transfer fee.

However, the towering Frenchman is happy to see out the season in an effort to get the Toffees into the Champions League.

Manager David Moyes is keen to strengthen his defence and bring down the age of his squad generally, because the average age of the current first team is 30.

But Moyes recognises Distin is one of his most dependable performers.

Sunderland would be willing to offer a fee and two year deal but Distin is thought to be on the verge of a two-year deal on Merseyside.
