O'Donovan sees the Light
10 Aug 2007 - 07:24:18
Sunderland have completed the signing of highly-rated Cork City forward Roy O'Donovan for an undisclosed fee.
The 21-year-old had been wanted by Fulham and Southend United earlier this summer, but the Republic of Ireland B international has chosen to head to the Stadium of Light, signing a three-year deal.
He told his new club's official website: "This is a big challenge for me and when the chance came about I didn't think twice.
"I had a choice between Fulham and Sunderland but when I spoke to the gaffer (Roy Keane) my mind was made up.
"It's a big change for me, but I'm looking forward to it. It's up to me to do it on the training pitch. Everyone at this club is ambitious and I want to be part of it."
O'Donovan had short spells in England with Wolves, Coventry City and Cheltenham Town, before returning home to join Cork in March 2005.
