No rapid return for Gordon
21 Dec 2008 - 11:41:49
Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon will not be ready for a first-team return for at least another month.
The 25-year-old former Hearts shot-stopper is set to return to light training next week after suffering an ankle ligament injury more than two months ago.
He attempted a comeback in last month's home defeat to Bolton Wanderers but only managed to aggravate the injury.
Caretaker boss Ricky Sbragia said: "Craig will be back into light training next week. We can't set a comeback date yet, but in three or four weeks he should be back into full training.
"He'll be back well into the new year, I'd have thought. There's no guarantee he'll get straight back in anyway, it depends on how Marton (Fulop) does. There will be a bit of competition there."
Meanwhile, Sbragia has decided to recall Trevor Carson from his loan spell at Chesterfield.
