No Bent regrets for Redknapp
03 Apr 2010 - 10:40:31
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp remains confident that he made the right decision to sell England striker Darren Bent to Sunderland last summer.
The 26-year-old has rattled in 21 goals in 34 appearances for the Black Cats since his £10million switch to the Stadium of Light, but Redknapp has no regrets about allowing Bent to move on.
He said: "Darren's had a terrific season. He has scored his goals, it's been a great move for him and it's done him the world of good.
"He has played regularly, he's become a big player up there, a major player in their team and he has responded. He has put himself in the running for a World Cup place as well, so good luck to him.
"It hasn't surprised me, I just ended up with a situation where I brought Jermain Defoe in and I brought Peter Crouch in because he gave us a different dimension. I already had Roman Pavlyuchenko here and I had Robbie Keane.
"I thought he'd (Bent) score goals there. I felt he would do well, but then my strikers have done well as well and you can't keep everyone happy.
"It was time for him to move. It wasn't only me, it was before I came that he wasn't playing regularly."
