New Cats contract for Collins

Sunderland defender Danny Collins has put pen to paper on a new two-and-a-half-year contract at the Stadium of Light.

The 28-year-old centre-half has been with the Wearside club for five years and has now pledged his future until the end of the 2010-11 campaign.

The Wales international has made almost 150 appearances since joining from Chester City during the 2004-05 season.

"I'm happy here and it's good to sign for another few seasons," he told the club's official website. "I think the club is going places."

Collins has featured in 25 games for the Black Cats this season and has been a virtual ever-present in the starting line-up following the club's return to the Premier League 18 months ago.
