More injury woe for Bruce
28 Jan 2010 - 11:12:27
Sunderland's injury woes show no sign of abating after both Lee Cattermole and Kieran Richardson limped out of Wednesday's 2-0 defeat at Everton.
Former Middlesbrough and Wigan Athletic midfielder Cattermole, who was playing in his first game for more than a month, had to be substituted at half-time, while Richardson came off midway through the first half.
Black Cats boss Steve Bruce said after the Goodison Park setback: "We'll give it a few days and see where we are after the weekend.
"We're trying to get a settled side but it's next to impossible when we keep picking up one injury after another.
"Kieran indicated to the bench early on that he had some sort of problem, so we're going to have to look into that.
"Lee Cattermole thought he was going to be able to come out for the second half but at the last second he felt a problem with his hamstrings.
"Some might say he was brought back too soon again but he'd been training flat out with us for the last ten days and, because of a niggle or two, we hadn't risked him at Portsmouth.
"The lad wanted to play and thought he was going to be all right and, to be fair to him, the injury he's picked up is different from the original hamstring injury."
