More woe for Wes after setback
Sunderland defender Wes Brown is still not ready to make his first-team comeback after suffering a setback in his recovery from a knee injury.
Brown has not featured for Sunderland since the end of January after hurting his knee in an FA Cup fourth-round tie against Middlesbrough.
The 33-year-old returned to fitness to feature in the Black Cats' pre-season programme, only to then damage his knee ligaments again.
The former Manchester United stopper broke down in training earlier this week and manager Martin O'Neill is unsure when Brown will be able to play again.
"Wes had a bit of a setback in training the other day and we're going to have to assess that now," O'Neill told the Sunderland Echo.
"He's going to be a little longer, frustratingly.
"Wes himself is really frustrated with it all. Having come to a new club he was wanting to make an impression.
"It's a tough time for him in his career and really frustrating. He wanted to make a mark but unfortunately the comeback has not been easy to overcome."
Brown has been restricted to just 22 appearances for Sunderland since he moved to the Stadium of Light from United in the summer of 2011.
