Miller joins Cats injury list
07 Feb 2008 - 11:26:25
Sunderland will be without Liam Miller for around a month after the midfielder suffered a calf strain while away on international duty.
The 26-year-old was replaced at half-time in the Republic of Ireland's 1-0 friendly defeat to Brazil at Croke Park on Wednesday night and faces a spell on the sidelines.
"It's a calf injury. The physio has said that hopefully it isn't too bad, but I'm looking at maybe three weeks out," revealed Miller.
"I will see the Sunderland physio and he will assess it. Obviously, I'm unhappy."
Miller's absence leaves Black Cats boss Roy Keane with a further selection problem ahead of Saturday's crunch meeting with Wigan Athletic.
Kieran Richardson, Carlos Edwards, Dwight Yorke, Andy Reid and Danny Higginbotham have all been ruled out, while Grant Leadbitter is struggling with a toe injury.
"We'll be wrapping the players in cotton wool from now on," Keane told the club's official website.
"We're looking to shorten our training sessions, making sure we're ready for match days.
"We are due a spell where we don't get any injuries. When we do get some of these players back, I think we'll have a squad that can do well."
