    McClaren rules out Cats job

    08 Dec 2008 - 13:07:12

Former England boss Steve McClaren has ruled out a return to the Premier League to fill the managerial vacancy at Sunderland.

McClaren is currently resurrecting his career in Dutch football with FC Twente after being axed by the Football Association following England's failure to qualify for Euro 2008.

But the former Middlesbrough manager has no interest in succeeding Roy Keane at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats are on the lookout for a new manager following Keane's surprise resignation last week.

"It's nonsense," claimed McClaren, who has guided Twente to third place in the Eredivisie this season.

"I have no interest whatsoever in returning to England at the moment."

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Marton Fulop has urged the club to make a swift managerial appointment.

Keane's former first-team coach, Ricky Sbragia, was in caretaker charge for Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

"We have great faith in Ricky and the coaching staff," said Fulop.

"He is a really super person and deserves a chance to be a top-flight manager, but he has said he does not want the job permanently.

"The good thing now would be to get a replacement as soon as possible so we can move forward as a squad and a club and try to build some better results."
