Martinez rules out Figueroa exit

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has rejected reports linking Maynor Figueroa with a move to Sunderland. Reports on Friday suggested Steve Bruce was keen to be reunited with Figueroa at Sunderland as he looks to bolster his defensive options. Martinez has dismissed the rumours and insists he wants to keep hold of the left-back. "Maynor is a vital player for our plans, vital player for the future to allow our football club to develop so in that respect nothing's going to happen with that sort of talk," Martinez told Sky Sports News. "I don't think we are in a position as a football club now where we need to sell anyone. "In that respect it is vital we keep players on long-term contracts that are important for the future of the football club and Maynor is one of them. "It is important in that respect we focus on the games and allow the transfer deadline to close and focus on our daily work."
