Denmark international Peter Lovenkrands hopes to stay in England and is particularly keen on sealing a transfer to Sunderland.
The 29-year-old former Rangers winger spent the second half of last season on loan at Newcastle United from Schalke, but was released when the Magpies failed to avoid relegation.
Lovenkrands said: "Sunderland is certainly an interesting club. The city is near Newcastle, where we have settled fine, and it would be attractive to stay in northern England.
"I would not mind continuing to play in England and particularly in the Premier League."
Lovenkrands scored three goals in 12 appearances for the Magpies having previously found the net 54 times in 180 matches for Rangers.
