Leeds to make 750k move for George McCartney after Sunderland defender extends loan deal

Roaring success: Northern Ireland international McCartney will remain at Elland Road Leeds will attempt to tie up a £750,000 deal for George McCartney after further extending his loan move. The Sunderland defender, who almost moved to Birmingham in the summer, will spend a third month at Elland Road after proving a success. Once that expires, after the match against Portsmouth on December 28, manager Simon Grayson will try to agree terms with counterpart Steve Bruce for a full-time switch. McCartney, 29, has made 12 appearances for Leeds since arriving in September and is a firm favourite with supporters. Grayson hopes to sign McCartney for the January 4 clash at Cardiff. Meanwhile, Leeds United outcast Andy Robinson has finally left Elland Road after having the remainder of his contract cancelled by mutual consent.
