Kilgallon promises no favours
Sunderland defender Matt Kilgallon insists Manchester United will not receive any favours when they travel to the Stadium of Light on Sunday.[LNB] The Red Devils go into the showdown sitting a point behind rivals Chelsea with two games remaining as the Premier League title race reaches its climax.[LNB]But Kilgallon insists former United player and current Sunderland boss Steve Bruce will demand a maximum effort on Sunday.[LNB]The defender says the Black Cats will be giving their all - just as they did in the 1-0 success at Hull City last Saturday when the Tigers also needed the points at the other end of the table.[LNB]Kilgallon told the Sunderland Echo: "The manager, our crowd and our own pride won't let that (rolling over) happen.[LNB]"I think we showed that at Hull. They were scrapping for their lives and you could say the season is over for us because we're safe, but we've still got a lot to play for.[LNB]"It's the same against United, I suppose - with the title race still so close. It's a massive game for them.[LNB]"Whenever you go up against these top clubs you want to do well.[LNB]"We showed a very professional attitude against Hull and proved we still want to finish as high up the league as we can."[LNB]The former Sheffield United defender moved to the Stadium of Light in January and initially played four matches before he was then left out of the side for the next 10 games until he returned against the Tigers.[LNB]The 26-year-old discovered less than an hour before kick-off that he was starting the game at the KC and he was delighted to have been given his chance once more.[LNB]Kilgallon added: "I knew I was coming to a club with good centre-halves and there might be times when I would have to be patient.[LNB]"I've not been used to sitting on the bench, but I knew I had to train hard and I would get my chance again. The gaffer has to pick the right team and he's been doing that, as you can see from the results we've had lately.[LNB]"The team's named quite late on matchdays, so I didn't have a lot of time to think about it; I was just pleased to get the nod. I had to take my chance, and hopefully I have.[LNB]"It would be fantastic to stay in the side against Man United. Playing against that calibre of player is a great challenge - it's why I want to be playing in the Premier League."[LNB]While star striker Wayne Rooney is not set to feature again for the Red Devils this season because of injury, Kilgallon believes it will still be tough for the Black Cats.[LNB]He added: "Clubs don't win titles and trophies because of just one player.[LNB]"Rooney's been outstanding, but United are full of class.[LNB]"We will just go for it. Our home crowd will be right behind us and our form at the Stadium of Light has been really good. They're going for the title, but we will try to stop them."
