Kenwyne sets comeback date

Trinidad & Tobago international Kenwyne Jones believes he will be ready to make his first-team return for Sunderland in a month's time.

The 23-year-old has been sidelined since sustaining a knee injury in his country's friendly international defeat to England at the beginning of June.

However, Jones has targeted the Black Cats' Premier League encounter with Fulham in mid-October for his comeback.

"I'm trying to get fit for October 18," he told the Daily Express. "But, with determination and fingers crossed, I'm also eyeing a return on October 4.

"If it happens by then there's the possibility I can be available for the national team.

"I'm not going to put pressure on returning for the qualifiers in October. At the same time, if it happens, it happens.

"Roy Keane does not have a fight with me and once things go well I hope to be there for Trinidad & Tobago.

"I am starting to run again and that is a big relief because it has been frustrating having to sit out the past few weeks."
