Kenwyne close to return

Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones is expected to return to first-team action in the next few weeks.

The Trinidad & Tobago international has been sidelined since suffering a serious knee ligament injury while representing his country in the friendly international against England more than four months ago.

Black Cats boss Roy Keane said: "Kenwyne's making good progress. The surgeon's delighted with the way it's going.

"He's working extremely hard to get back and is showing a great attitude in the gym. Hopefully it will now be a matter of weeks."

Meanwhile, Keane insists he is in no rush to sign a new Stadium of Light contract.

The former Manchester United midfielder is in the last year of a three-year contract, but told the Sunderland Echo: "Contract talks have opened, so I'm told, but I'm as relaxed about it now as I've always been.

"Some people have suggested it's about my money but it's never been about that. Obviously I want to know that things are going in the right direction at the club and I think they are."
