    Keane swoops for McShane

    27 Jul 2007 - 07:58:23

Sunderland have completed the signing of West Bromwich Albion defender Paul McShane for an initial fee of £1.5million.

The deal for the 21-year-old Republic of Ireland stopper could eventually be worth £2.5million and McShane becomes the sixth new recruit for the Black Cats this summer.

McShane had only been with the Baggies for one season, following his free transfer move from Manchester United.

Albion manager Tony Mowbray told the club's official website: "I want to thank Paul for his contribution last season. He's a terrific lad with a terrific attitude to football.

"But Paul intimated to me in very strong terms that his ambitions lay away from this football club.

"I've said it many times before that I want players here who want to play for the shirt so that we can move the club forward together. We've now sold three players who made it clear they wanted to leave.

"We now have an opportunity to build a new team with players who are fully committed to taking the club forward."
