    Keane seals triple swoop

    30 Aug 2007 - 08:06:28

Sunderland manager Roy Keane has invested a further £9million in his squad after adding Kenwyne Jones and Danny Higginbotham to the Stadium of Light ranks.

Keane followed up his free transfer capture of former Republic of Ireland team-mate Ian Harte on Wednesday by signing Southampton striker Jones for £6million and former Stoke City captain Higginbotham for £3million.

Meanwhile, Keane has allowed veteran striker Stern John to head in the opposite direction and replace Jones at Southampton.

The Black Cats beat off interest from Derby County to sign the 22-year-old Trinidad & Tobago international and Keane believes Jones has all the attributes to make an impact in the Premier League.

"I'm delighted that Kenwyne is a Sunderland player. He was very keen to join this club and that is always a good thing," he told the club's official website.

"He is a big strong boy who is quick and athletic too. He has real physical presence and is the type of player we've been missing."

Referring to the double defensive capture of Harte and Higginbotham, he added: "I've played alongside Ian and I know the qualities he can bring to our club.

"You need a big squad in the Premier League and he will add strength to ours.

"And I'm pleased that after long negotiations we've signed a player of Danny's quality.

"I know him personally and he's a great character. He can play at centre-half or left-back so his versatility will be a big plus for us."
