Keane happy with Halford
30 Oct 2007 - 08:21:26
Sunderland manager Roy Keane is confident Greg Halford will eventually develop into a Premier League regular even though the former Colchester United defender has endured a difficult start to the season.
The 22-year-old moved to the Stadium of Light from Reading in the summer but has only made seven appearances for the Black Cats so far this term.
He was sent off in the Carling Cup defeat at Luton Town in August and picked up his second red card of the season in Saturday's draw with Fulham.
However, Keane told the Sunderland Echo: "Greg showed a good attitude. He kept getting into forward positions and, if you want to be a top player, you've got to be willing to keep getting there, and I admire him for that.
"I'll have to look at the red card again, but before we gave the foul away, we had decent possession.
"We gave it away sloppily and one ball in behind us and Greg grabbed the lad's jersey and we were down to ten men.
"It's been a difficult start for lots of people, but it comes down to the player."
