Keane fires abuse warning
25 Sep 2008 - 09:30:23
Sunderland manager Roy Keane has warned supporters that he will not tolerate a repeat of the treatment he received during Wednesday's Carling Cup victory over Northampton Town.
Speaking after his side had edged out League One opposition on penalties to reach the fourth round, an angry Keane lambasted the Black Cats supporters who abused him from the stands during a disappointing performance.
The players were booed at half-time in a game where they failed to perform, but Keane was outraged by personal attacks aimed in his direction.
Keane admitted the night was one of his worst in football, but has warned supporters that he will not tolerate any more personal abuse.
"I won't tolerate people abusing me, absolutely none whatsoever," fumed the Irishman.
"Some people were targeting me and that's something I've not come into the job to accept again.
"I appreciate criticism, constructive criticism, which I'm going to receive.
"The abuse, I know it is part of football, but that is something I won't tolerate."
