Sunderland have reportedly had a £4.5million bid for West Ham United left-back George McCartney rejected by the side from the capital.
The former Black Cats player is keen to return to a club he left in 2005 just before Niall Quinn took over as chairman-manager.
The Hammers are unwilling to let McCartney leave Upton Park, although they have given Fulham permission to talk to Bobby Zamora and John Paintsil.
Northern Ireland international McCartney has made 69 appearances for West Ham and has been a virtual ever-present for the first team in the last 18 months.
Roy Keane is also believed to be interested in bringing Tottenham striker Darren Bent, Reading's Stephen Hunt and Andy Johnson from Everton to Wearside.
