Spanish midfielder Arnau Riera will leave Sunderland this summer, having failed to make his mark with the Black Cats.
The 25-year-old penned a three-year contract last summer, but the former Barcelona B man made just two appearances for the club - the second being marked by a red card against Bury.
His agent, Craig Honeyman, told the Evening Chronicle: "Arnau has not been playing at Sunderland, so it was not a surprise he was one of the players to be told he could leave this summer.
"Roy Keane has been honest with him and he appreciates that.
"We are looking at a number of options for him, some in England and some elsewhere in Europe.
"Arnau is a proud man and does not want to go back to Spain as a failure, so at the moment a move back home is not on the agenda."
