Jones rescues Black Cats

Kenwyne Jones came to Sunderland's rescue with a second-half equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Wigan. The Trinidad and Tobago international headed home Jordan Henderson's right-wing cross after 64 minutes, after Mohamed Diame had blasted the visitors into a 20th-minute lead.Diame's opener was a sweet strike and the visitors were good value for their lead, after Paul Scharner had earlier passed up a glorious opportunity.Maynor Figueroa also whistled a long-range effort just over and Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon was less than convincing as he parried Rodallega's 42nd-minute overhead kick.Sunderland defender Michael Turner headed wastefully across goal in the second half, and Charles N'Zogbia sliced wide at the other seconds later. But Jones did not falter when presented with his big opening, powering home a header into the bottom left corner.
