Jones close to Cats return
17 Oct 2008 - 13:32:11
Sunderland boss Roy Keane expects Kenwyne Jones to make his comeback from injury for the club's reserves next week.
The Trinidad & Tobago striker has been out of action since damaging knee ligaments during an international friendly against England in Port of Spain at the start of June.
Last season's top-scorer has resumed full training this week and has been pencilled in to make his comeback for the reserves against Wigan Athletic.
Should he come through the second-string game unscathed then Jones could feature against Newcastle United in the following weekend's Wear-Tyne derby.
"Kenwyne's had a good few days' training with the first team and we'll look to get him involved with the reserves next week," manager Roy Keane told the club's official website.
"If all goes well, you never know for the following weekend. It's great to see Kenwyne back, it's a big boost for everyone."
Meanwhile, Keane has confirmed that Dwight Yorke is unlikely to feature at Fulham on Saturday after the veteran midfielder played two games in ten days for Trinidad & Tobago.
