Jeffries Gives Debut Promise

Olympic bronze medallist Tony Jeffries vowed to make his home town debut as a professional fighter "the biggest night of boxing Sunderland has ever had".[LNB]The former Farringdon Community Sports College pupil, 24, said the roar of "a thousand Mackems" would drive him on when he fought at Crowtree Leisure Centre on May 2.[LNB]He will fight on the undercard in a series of bouts to be screened live on Sky Box Office on the night two-time IBF and IBO light-welterweight champion Ricky Hatton faces Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas.[LNB]The fighter, who signed a professional contract with boxing promoter Frank Maloney in January, said: "The atmosphere is going to be amazing.[LNB]"As a world-class amateur fighter I have fought all around the world, but never in front of my home town fans; my own people.[LNB]"I'm looking forward to the opportunity to let them come and see me box here.[LNB]"To fight in front of a thousand Mackems is going to be great.[LNB]"It will be the biggest night of boxing Sunderland has ever seen."[LNB]Frank Maloney said the fight would put Sunderland "back on the map".[LNB]"Yesterday we met with the executives at The Stadium of Light and they assured me we could get 62,000 people in there, so that is our aim - to break some records for a fight later, in Tony's career."[LNB]
