Booze-fuelled celebrations landed a Black Cats fan in court following SAFC's win over Newcastle.

Steven Thomas Goody was arrested after clashing with police in Sunderland city centre.

The 29-year-old, from Springwell, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court.

Paul Anderson, prosecuting, told the court police were trying to arrest a man outside a bookmakers near Park Lane, after Sunderland had beaten their rivals 3-0 on Sunday April 14, when Goody became involved.

He said: “Mr Goody was asked to leave the area and was ushered off towards the bus station.

“He went initially but it seems he came back and began arguing with officers who had detained the arrested male.

“The person being arrested was trying to resist being placed in the rear of a police vehicle.

“Mr Goody came over and swore at police.

“He was clearly drunk and arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

“He said to the officer: ‘Is this because we beat you 3-0?’”

Goody, of Springwell Road, was fined £125 and ordered to pay £85 towards court costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
