Henderson: We must start holding on

Midfielder Jordan Henderson has admitted his frustration at Sunderland's inability to maintain a lead - a failing which is undermining their bid to qualify for Europe next season. The Wearsiders are seventh in the Barclays Premier League but the chasing pack have closed what was a significant gap following three successive defeats for Steve Bruce's men. Those losses - at home to Chelsea and Tottenham and away at Stoke - have all come despite Sunderland being in front and Henderson concedes it is a weakness they are going to have to rectify. Henderson told the Sunderland Echo: "It's a test of character for us now. We've been beaten the last few games and we need to quickly turn it around and kick our season on again. "We can't fail at the final hurdle. I'm sure the lads will keep working hard and hopefully at Everton we can get something. "It makes it more disappointing that we've taken the lead in all three games we've lost. If you take the lead, you should probably go on and win and if you can't win, you can't lose the game. We haven't managed to do that but I'm sure things will change and we can get back to winning ways."
