HATCHET MAN: Smiles better at Sunderland with Ricky instead of Roy

23 February 2009 09:44
Roy Keane seems so wrapped up in being football's macho man that he cannot think straight about the game. [LNB]By claiming that Sunderland [LNB]should have employed Roy Chubby Brown if they wanted a manager to put smiles on their players' faces, he comes across as a caricature.[LNB][LNB][LNB] Different approach: Sbragia (left) doesn't work in the same way as Keane[LNB] Keane made himself look like the sport's cartoon hardman last Sunday with ridiculous and juvenile statements to justify his departure from the Stadium of Light. [LNB]Absenteeism management doesn't - and clearly didn't - work in the end, and if he didn't have coaching staff who backed him up at Sunderland, that is a management problem he should have fixed. [LNB]Keane may not have wanted to pander to his Sunderland players and seems to think his replacement, Ricky Sbragia, is too chummy with them. [LNB]Now his successor may be extremely boring in comparison to Keane and he has made decisions the Irishman wouldn't have, but he has put smiles on a few faces in a way that would have been novel towards the end of Keane's reign: by guiding them close to safety.[LNB] Keane: Why I had to walk away from Sunderland and football[LNB]Arsenal 0 Sunderland 0: New Arshavin but same old story...[LNB]SUNDERLAND FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE NET[LNB] [LNB] [LNB]
