HATCHET MAN: Sbragia's time is up, Sunderland need to make a change NOW

If Sunderland are going to replace Ricky Sbragia in the summer they should bring forward the change by a few weeks. He simply cannot motivate his players and at the rate they are going the club is in desperate trouble. Only the shamefully poor standard of the teams in the relegation zone can save Sunderland from the drop but a change of leadership might give them the point or two they need to rescue themselves. Chairman Niall Quinn was awful when he was Sunderland's manager temporarily three years ago but even he would surely be more inspiring than Mr Magnolia. Sbragia has given his players a dressing down in the changing rooms after the last two matches and slated them publicly - but to no apparent effect. They were almost as bad against Everton as they were at West Bromwich Albion and have clearly stopped playing for a manager who seems to have run out of ideas after only five months in the job. If Sunderland don't want to rely on other teams to stop the slide they must act now and try to instil some urgency.
