Gyan may make Black Cats bow

Record signing Asamoah Gyan could be handed a Barclays Premier League debut for Sunderland at Wigan. The 24-year-old is available for the first time since completing his £13million-plus switch from French club Rennes, although manager Steve Bruce is yet to decide on whether to start him or not. If he is thrown straight in, he could replace Fraizer Campbell, who will undergo surgery to repair his damaged cruciate ligament next Friday before embarking on a six-month period of rehabilitation. Nedum Onuoha is available again after being ineligible for the 1-0 win over parent club Manchester City and John Mensah (hamstring) is fit while Andy Reid and George McCartney have two reserve games under their belt and return to contention. But Michael Turner (ankle) could be sidelined for several weeks and Craig Gordon (broken arm) and David Meyler (knee) remain on the sidelines.
