Gordon not happy with role
11 Mar 2009 - 15:02:06
Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon has admitted that he is unhappy about losing his starting place to Marton Fulop.
The £10million Scotland international has failed to dislodge his former understudy since returning from a lengthy ankle injury lay-off in February.
Gordon has made just one appearance since returning to full-fitness and the former Hearts shot-stopper is unhappy with the current situation.
"When I came back in against Blackburn I was looking to push on from there, but that hasn't happened," he told the Chronicle.
"I've been very disappointed by that, but that's the situation in which I now find myself. I asked to play for the reserves because I needed match practice.
"Last night was my first reserve game since I was 18 or 19 so it has been around seven years since I was last out of the first team for any length of time.
"That's something I have to deal with. I'm not happy about it, but I have to get on with it.
"I know Marton was very frustrated in the summer when he hadn't had a look-in last season and now I know how he felt. It isn't nice.
"There's a situation here in that we both want to play and there is nothing wrong with that. Whoever isn't playing is going to be very unhappy.
"All I can do is focus on doing my job and hopefully I'll get back in as quickly as possible."
