Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon is determined to preserve the top-flight status of his club.[LNB] The £9million signing, a record for a British goalkeeper, has had to watch from the sidelines as the Black Cats have become mired in the relegation fight.[LNB]But after being recalled to the starting line-up for Sunderland's clash with West Ham last weekend, he is ready for the relegation run-in.[LNB]Despite his team currently lying in 17th place in the Premier League table, the Scotland international is optimistic they will not be playing Championship football next season.[LNB]"We are better off than three teams below us, so we are not in the worst position," he said.[LNB]Fight"We roll our sleeves up and we get on with it and we fight for every single point we possibly can between now and the end of the season.[LNB]"We have got players in this dressing room who have got the experience from last year, and we are desperate to make sure that the outcome is the same this season."[LNB]Gordon suffered an ankle injury in October and struggled to regain the starting position from Hungarian team-mate Marton Fulop upon his return.[LNB]The 26-year-old admits that the period spent on the bench was difficult to cope with, but a strong belief in his own abilities saw him through.[LNB]He said: "It's not easy, but you have just got to keep believing in your own ability and believe in your technique and believe in the things that got you there in the first place, and that's what I did."[LNB]StrangeSunderland will play Manchester United on Saturday but Gordon is not worrying about having to fend off the formidable attack of the league leaders in only his second game back.[LNB]"You never know. You can't go into any game thinking you are going to be overly busy or you are going to have a nice and easy time of it," he added.[LNB]"I have played against some of the biggest teams in the world - I have played against France and Italy and not had an awful lot to do in the game, so you can never tell.[LNB]"The odds are it probably will be busy, but you never know. Football is a strange game and we might just be able to nick a result."[LNB]
