Gardner hails Sunderland hero

Craig Gardner is hoping to borrow from Sunderland legend Kevin Phillips as he attempts to bring goals to his game at the Stadium of Light.[LNB] The 24-year-old midfielder scored 10 times for former club Birmingham last season, but has managed just once in a red and white shirt to date since his summer move to Wearside.[LNB]However, having spent time observing former Blues' frontman Phillips during their time together at St Andrew's, Gardner is hoping to employ some of his techniques to set his tally ticking over in earnest.[LNB]He told SAFC TV: "Goals are an important part of my game. When you watch Kevin Phillips, he's always in the box, always gambling, and that's what I try to do.[LNB]"Balls always fall to him and he always scores because of the gambles he makes.[LNB]"It's nice to be known for scoring goals, but I want to be involved in the game as well. That's something I want to add to my game."
