The ex-Brighton boss has no previous experience of Premier League management, however Gabbiadini believes that Poyet's experience as a player in the top-flight with Chelsea and Tottenham will "stand him in good stead."
Marco Gabbiadini: "He's a respected person as a player. he's been there, got the t-shirt, and I think he always comes over very well in the press as well.
"We are in a desperate situation and I think this is the way forward.
"We need a change of fortune and I'm sure the fans will be right behind him."
