Frazier Campbell racially abused on Twitter police investigate

Twitter target: Fraizer Campbell Police have begun an investigation after another Premier League footballer was sent a racist message on Twitter. Sunderland striker Fraizer Campbell was called a "big f**king n****r" after he joked 'Come on Estonia! You can do it!' ahead of the Euro 2012 play-off against Ireland. The message was sent by TheReid1, whose account no longer exists. Campbell, 24, and formerly of Manchester United, retweeted the abuse, adding 'wow just seen this tweet! Disgraceful'. He also linked a picture of the Show Racism the Red Card organisation's logo. A Northumbria Police spokesman said: 'We are aware of the matter and inquiries are being made into it.' Thesame force launched an investigation after Newcastle United's Sammy Ameobi was similarly abused on Twitter a fortnight ago. Two teenagers were arrested. Meanwhile, Crawley midfielder Hope Akpan has been fined ?1,200 by the Football Association over remarks made on his Twitter account. The 20-year-old pleaded guilty to themisconduct charge, although he claimed the homophobic comments were written by a younger member of his family. Akpantold Town's official website: 'This is a very harsh lesson for me but given the circumstances I had no option but to plead guilty. Abuse: Newcastle United's Sammy Ameobi has also been targeted 'Itis clear the person I thought would stand up for his actions did not, and it has come with a heavy price to myself. I am told the FA were verysympathetic over what happened but they must act within their rules. 'Inrelation to what was reported on my Twitter account, I can only once again apologise.
