Edwards blow for Black Cats

Sunderland's promotion drive has been hit by the news that Carlos Edwards could be sidelined for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.

The Trinidad & Tobago international picked up the problem in last weekend's 2-1 victory over West Brom at The Hawthorns.

The winger is now set to miss the next eight weeks which means he could theoretically be fit should the Black Cats miss out on automatic promotion but earn a play-off place.

Edwards arrived at the Stadium of Light in a £1.5million January transfer window move from Luton Town.

The 28-year-old has netted three times in ten appearances for Roy Keane's side.
