Double joy for Elliott
22 Nov 2006 - 07:29:18
Sunderland striker Stephen Elliott is hopeful of a run in the team after his matchwinning double in the 3-1 victory over Colchester United.
The Republic of Ireland international has suffered a number of injury problems in the last couple of years, but is hoping to put those behind him and help the Black Cats climb the Championship table.
He told the Sunderland Echo: "It was fantastic for me to get the two goals.
"It was the first time I'd been in the starting line-up for a while, so it was a great return for me.
"I got the two goals and it's up to the manager, but hopefully that'll be enough for me to stay in the side.
"It's been two years of injury problems for me, on and off. I just hope this is the start of a long period of me being injury-free.
"I've had some bad luck with injuries and I just want that to all be behind me. It was nothing major, just little things, but they kept on coming."
