Sunderland striker Darren Bent has been named North East Football Writer's Play of the year Sunderland striker Darren Bent has been named North East Football Writer’s Play of the year, beating Newcastle midfielder Kevin Nolan. The award has gone to a Sunderland player for the second time in a row as defender Danny Collins got the votes last year. The honour will be officially hand to Darren this coming Sunday, at the writers annual dinner.
