Crouch set for Cats talks

Peter Crouch has arrived in the North East to hold talks with Sunderland regarding a potential switch to the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats have been tracking the Portsmouth frontman for some time, keen to take advantage of the uncertainty which continues to reign at Fratton Park. Pompey are yet to see a proposed takeover from Middle Eastern billionaire Sulaiman Al-Fahim pushed through, while the club have also to confirm who their next permanent manager will be for the 2009/10 campaign. A number of key players have expressed their concern at the ongoing saga, with talismanic striker Crouch among them. He appears to have now decided that the opportunity to take on a new challenge at Sunderland would be a better option than sticking things out at Pompey. The Black Cats are believed to have agreed a fee with their Premier League rivals for the 28-year-old and he has now travelled north to discuss personal terms. Arriving at Newcastle airport on Thursday, Crouch's agent, Jonathan Barnett, confirmed to Sky Sports News sources that his client was set to hold talks with Sunderland boss Steve Bruce. No details have been released as yet regarding a medical, but the Wearsiders appear to be in pole position to land their top target. Fulham and Tottenham have both been linked with Crouch this summer, but they look set to miss out on the former Liverpool hit-man.
