Northampton caretaker manager Ian Sampson has appointed former Sunderland boss Malcolm Crosby to his coaching staff. Sampson`s first game in charge after the sacking of Stuart Gray ended in a 5-2 defeat at Notts County on Saturday and Sampson has moved quickly to bring in some experienced help. Sampson said: "Malcolm is someone I know from my days at Sunderland and I have a huge amount of respect for him. He was a big influence on my playing career." He added: "He is vastly experienced and he is coming in to help us out. He has worked at all levels of the game and I know he can benefit us. He will help with the coaching and I am keen to have his input. "As a young coach and manager looking to do the very best I can I would be foolish not to tap in to such experience when it is available and I`m delighted he is joining us."
