Collins news boosts Cats

Defender Danny Collins is set to hand Sunderland a timely injury boost by returning in time to face Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Collins suffered a blow to the head in last weekend's 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa and failed to finish the match.

But after returning to training on Thursday, the Wales defender has declared himself fit for the fourth round visit of Rovers to the Stadium Of Light.

Referring to the challenge by Villa's Nigel Reo-Coker, he told the club's official website: "His head caught me on the cheekbone, dazed me a bit and I landed funny.

"Afterwards I started to get blurred vision out of my right eye and I indicated to the physio that I was struggling a bit.

"But thankfully it's seems okay now and I should be fine for the weekend."

Collins has made 23 appearances for the Black Cats in all competitions this season.
