SUNDERLAND might be on the verge of adding an international midfielder to their ranks but another of the club's highly-rated Academy graduates is looking for an early opportunity to prove he can be a success story next season.[LNB] After a successful nine months at Ipswich Town under the guidance of former Black Cats boss Roy Keane, Jack Colback is likely to be given a taste of the action in the Premier League tomorrow.[LNB] Colback was crowned the Tractor Boys' player of the year last week after a promising stint in the Championship, and with David Meyler and Lee Cattermole on the injury list, he is in the squad to travel to Wolves.[LNB] The performances of Meyler and Jordan Henderson this season have shown manager Steve Bruce how effective Sunderland's Academy system is, and now Colback is looking for his chance.[LNB] We brought Jack in because of the injuries we have and I have been impressed,[LNB] said Bruce.[LNB] He has trained with us for the last two days and all of a sudden, from being a boy when he left, he now looks like a man out there with the others.[LNB] We have been very impressed and I know Ipswich think very highly of him. It's good to see.[LNB] Colback made more than 40 appearances during his season- long loan at Ipswich and Keane will be hoping the pending arrival of Paraguayan midfielder Cristian Riveros will strengthen his case to have the youngster back at Portman Road in August.[LNB] Bruce, however, is likely to bide his time before agreeing to send the 20-year-old out again, with Meyler known to be facing anywhere up to a year out of action.[LNB] The Irish midfielder, who only recently was rewarded with a five-year deal, yesterday underwent an operation on the cruciate ligament injury he sustained against Manchester United.[LNB] Bruce said: If anyone can get back then David has the strength of character and strength of mind over the long, long months it will take.[LNB] It has devastated the lot of us because it is an horrific injury.[LNB] It will take a long time for him to get back.[LNB] It's a tragedy. He came back from a bad injury on his ankle. He then did his other ankle, gets in the team, signs a new deal and then does this to his knee. It's awful for the kid.[LNB] Bruce is also without the injured Lee Cattermole and John Mensah at Wolves, where a victory for Sunderland could see them finish the season in tenth spot.[LNB]
