Cisse deal could be scrapped
A permanent move for Djibril Cisse is by no means assured, according to Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn.[LNB] Cisse is currently on loan at the Stadium of Light from French side Marseille, with a deal in place for The Black Cats to sign the striker at the end of the season.[LNB]But with the club still not clear of the relegation battle, the chairman has urged patience and a focus on survival before any grand summer plans are drawn out.[LNB]"I can't commit to him until we are safe - that's economically rather than football wise," said Quinn of his plans to sign the former Liverpool front man.[LNB]"If Ricky wants him football-wise, I can't commit to him if we are a Championship club.[LNB]"We need to know where we are going before we make a decision."[LNB]Sterling depreciationTo complicate matters further, Sunderland risk having to pay an inflated rate for the Frenchman as the global markets have significantly weakened the pound against the euro in the past six months.[LNB]"The second thing to bear in mind is that sterling has fallen apart since we made the deal and he's become about two or three million pounds dearer since we first agreed the deal," added Quinn.[LNB]"So we have to look at that. I'm not saying we won't do it, I'm saying it has to be looked at."[LNB]"If Ricky wants him and we feel good about the deal, then I'm sure we will find a way to do it.[LNB]"But economically it is not so straight forward. Hopefully though it's only a short delay before we amass enough points and can plan from there."[LNB]
