Character key for Keane

Sunderland manager Roy Keane says he will be doing plenty of homework on potential new signings before deciding who to bring to the club this summer. Keane is likely to be handed major funds to strengthen his squad for their Premier League return, but the Irishman is keen to make good use of any money available. He told the club's official website: "It is part of my job to make sure I bring the right characters and the right type of players to Sunderland. "If we have to pay big money for it, there is no getting away from it. But first and foremost I look at the character of a player. "You want to know he is a good player, but you need to be a good character to play here. "There is no Russian billionaire looking after us, it is a bit of a balancing act for me. "Obviously, the way the transfer figures have gone over the last few years, you have to pay the money. "The way it is, like anything else, if you want decent quality then you have to pay for it, there is no getting away from that."
