Sunderland have completed the signing of midfielder Lee Cattermole from Wigan Athletic for a fee of £6million. Cattermole, who played under Black Cats boss Steve Bruce at Wigan last season, had been linked with a move to the north east throughout the summer. The England Under-21 international, who came through the ranks at Sunderland's local rivals Middlesbrough, has agreed a four-year contract at the Stadium of Light. The 21-year-old made 69 Premier League appearances for the Teessiders during three years in the first team. He went on to play 33 games for the Latics after joining Wigan for a fee of £3.5million last summer. Earlier in the week, Wigan boss Roberto Martinez admitted that Cattermole was likely to be leaving the DW Stadium. He said: "It's unsettling and it's very difficult for any human being to deal with. "You need to know where you stand and have players that are determined, focused and working to high standards. "At the moment we have got a little too much uncertainty in a couple of situations and we need to make sure we put that right."
